Ingo Eggers
 Counselling Psychologist

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." - Carl Rogers

Bookings will start from 01 June 2026 for both Online and in-person therapy.

My name is Ingo Eggers, and I am a registered counselling psychologist with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, practising under the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). I work with older children, adolescents, and adults, both in person and online. I entered this profession because I wanted to be genuinely useful to people during the times in life that matter most, not in a distant or purely clinical sense, but in a way that is present, thoughtful, and human. Over the years, that conviction has only deepened. I believe that psychological difficulties cannot always be reduced to symptoms or diagnoses alone. People are shaped by their histories, relationships, environments, and the ways they have learned to cope over time. My work is grounded in trying to understand the person as a whole rather than focusing only on the problem that brought them to therapy.

Areas of Focus I work with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress
  • Depression and low mood
  • Trauma and developmental trauma
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Adjustment difficulties and life transitions
  • Behavioural challenges
  • Neurodiversity, including ADHD and autism
  • Identity, belonging, and self-esteem difficulties
  • Suicidal thoughts and emotional distress
  • Relationship and interpersonal difficulties

These difficulties often affect far more than a person’s mental health alone. They can influence relationships, self-worth, emotional resilience, work, family life, and one’s sense of direction or stability. I approach this work with both seriousness and compassion.

My Approach to Therapy I do not believe therapy should follow a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach. Every person brings a unique history, temperament, and set of experiences into the consulting room, and therapy should make room for that individuality. My approach is integrative and tailored to the needs of the person sitting in front of me. Some individuals benefit from structured and evidence-based approaches that provide practical tools and strategies. Others need space to reflect, process their experiences, and feel genuinely heard without pressure or judgement. Most often, therapy involves a combination of both. I place significant value on the therapeutic relationship itself. In many cases, meaningful change begins in the experience of being understood consistently, honestly, and without judgement. I aim to create a space that feels grounded, collaborative, and emotionally safe. I also believe that effective psychological care is often holistic in nature. Where appropriate, I value collaboration with other healthcare and allied professionals to help ensure clients receive comprehensive and well-rounded support. I believe that thoughtful interdisciplinary collaboration, with the client’s wellbeing at the centre, is an important part of best-practice mental healthcare.

What Therapy With Me Is Like The environment I try to create is warm, calm, and non-judgemental. There is no expectation to present yourself in a certain way or to arrive with the “right” words. You are welcome to come as you are. I believe that growth is rarely linear. Progress often unfolds gradually, and periods of uncertainty, frustration, or feeling stuck can become important parts of the therapeutic process rather than signs of failure. Therapy is not about perfection or quick fixes, but about developing a deeper understanding of oneself and building a more sustainable way of coping and living. While therapy can involve difficult conversations at times, it should also feel human. I try to approach people with honesty, consistency, care, and respect.

Community and Connection Beyond the consulting room, I hold a deep belief in the importance of community and human connection. Much of what helps people remain resilient is found in their relationships with others and in the experience of not having to navigate life alone. That perspective continues to shape both how I understand people and how I practise therapy.
